Putting an new organization on the map:
Centre for Drug Research and Development

The Challenge: Based at UBC  CDRD was a new drug research organization with a unique hybrid not-for-profit / for-profit structure that was hard to explain. Their purpose is to accelerate the development of high potential drug discoveries. Pioneering a new business model, they were challenged with telling their story and putting themselves on the map within the health research and funding communities.

The Strategy: Based on their strategic objectives, we helped CDRD articulate its vision, mission, values and key messages. We also helped frame the story that described their unique structure.

We then developed a strategic communication plan to help build their research community and raise awareness among the biotech community, provincial and federal governments and other key audiences. The strategic plan included building a communications infrastructure, online communications, a media relations program, funder and member communications and events.

We worked with Domain 7, our web partners, to create and implement a new website , and also implemented aspects of the communication plan such as managing key media events and adding compelling communications to funding proposals.

The Results: Our communications efforts garnered media coverage in local daily papers and CDRD quickly became embedded in both the academic and biotech community building a contact database to over 2000 and attracting 50 investigators in its first years.

Tip: Saying thank you is powerful. Saying sorry is liberating. Do you need help communicating in a way that’s compelling, clear, relevant and powerful?
